Nova Rider

Nova Rider is a game created by a group of students (including me) during the second year of IGAD. It was part of a course called Gamelab. During this course, art and programming students work together to create a game from scratch.

In Nova Rider the player controls a ship that can fire a variety of weapons, including bullets, missiles and black holes. The player moves along a linear path and meets meteorites and enemies along the way. The goal of the game is to get past these obstacles and to defeat the boss at the end of the level.

Normal game lab projects will take one full day every week, and last for 14 weeks in total. However, our team came from a bigger project that got shut down after several problems with its production. We ended up having only 5 weeks rather than the normal 14 weeks to finish the game.

The team itself consisted of a total of 7 people; 4 artists and 3 programmers. My role was that of the team and the tech lead.

The engine that the game was build in was entirely created by me. I developed it as a side project during the second year of IGAD. Though it didn't have any stunning graphics, it supported all basic needs and was easy to use for prototyping.
